2016 — IRS Now Has Power to REVOKE Passports Over Delinquent Tax Debt

If you have a large tax debt, you might have trouble traveling, since the IRS power to revoke passports was signed into law as part of the FAST Act. The law says the State Department can revoke, deny or limit passports for anyone the IRS certifies as having a seriously delinquent tax debt in an amount in excess of $50,000. Administrative details are still scant, but you may be able to travel if your tax debt is being paid in a timely manner, as under a singed installment plan.

If you have a delinquent tax debt contact Rick Reiter, our tax attorney at Tucker Griffin Barnes. Rick has an LL.M. in tax and concentrates his legal practice in tax litigation, payment plans and offers in compromise, tax liens and other tax-related issues.
