Must Report Taxable Earnings To Benefit From SSD │ Attorney Mary Ann Barnes
If my earnings are “under the table”, I’m self-employed or I work for my spouse, will I still be able to receive Social Security Disability benefits if needed?
In order to accumulate earnings for Social Security Retirement benefits and Social Security Disability benefits, you must report taxable earnings. If you are self- employed, must pay self- employment taxes in order to benefit from these programs. Additionally, if you are working for a company owned by your spouse or other family member and not drawing your own paycheck, you are not creating any taxable earnings in your name.
